On a Day of Long-Awaited Hope — Documentary “The Women of the Revolution: Striving for Change”

On 13 December 2025, 123 Belarusian political prisoners were released — among them 35 women political prisoners, including KALESNIKAVA Maryia (belaruswomen.org), one of the key figures of the “Women’s Trio” during the 2020 democratic movement and one of the protagonists of our Documentary movie "The Women of the Revolution: Striving for Change" (belaruswomen.org).

Following her release, Maryia Kalesnikava said that she is happy to be free, but emphasized that freedom cannot be complete while others remain behind bars. Her words remind us that the struggle must continue until every political prisoner is released.

Our Documentary "The Women of the Revolution: Striving for Change" (belaruswomen.org) tells the story of Belarusian women — public activists and opposition leaders — who stood up for dignity, human rights, and democratic change during and after the fraudulent 2020 presidential elections. Many of them paid a high price for their courage: detention, imprisonment, and years stolen by repression.

We dedicate this screening to Maryia Kalesnikava, to all women who have endured repression, and to those who are still unlawfully imprisoned in Belarus.

Release is not the end. It is a stage.
And we continue to fight until every woman political prisoner is free.
